Background

Blisters Dice Game(TM) was created during 6 month walk from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail is a footpath along the Appalachian Mountains that extents from Florida to Canada. In 1987, when Blisters was first conceived, the Appalachian Trail was 2145 miles long, starting atop Springer Mountain in Georgia winding its way to the northern terminus atop Mt. Katahdin in Maine.

Game Equipment

The game is played with six dice, consisting of three pair of different colors. Play is based on matching dice.

Game Play

Score miles by matching numbers on rolled dice. The player rolls the dice, attempting to match numbers and accumulate points. Any dice that match are called scoring dice.

When the number of scoring dice is two or four (a pair, two pair or four of a kind), the player has the option of rolling the remaining unscoring dice or end that turn, adding any points to their game score total.
If the number of scoring dice is uneven (three and five of a kind or a full house), the player must roll the remaining unscoring dice. When the player rolls the remaining dice, they'll either roll more scoring dice or get Blisters. Whenever the player fails to roll scoring dice, this is called Blisters and the player loses any points from that turn.

- 2 or 4 scoring dice: roll remaining dice or stop and bank miles
- 3, 5, or 6 scoring dice: roll again
- 0 scoring dice: get BLISTERS, rest: 0 miles for the turn.

Scoring

Any dice with matching numbers are the scoring dice. If the numbers and the colors match, the score is ten times the number on one of those dice. If the numbers match but the colors do not, the score is the sum of the dice.

- Matching value add the face value of each dice.
- Matching color AND value, add 10x the value of the one die.
- If you roll 6 sixes in 1 turn, you BAIL OUT and lose the game!

Definition of a Turn

The player continues to control the dice until:

  •   The total number of scoring dice is two or four (like the example above) and he/she chooses to end this turn, adding the points to the game score total.
  •   The player fails to roll any scoring dice. (Blisters)
  •   The player has 6 sixes. We'll get to this rule later.

Game End

Once you reach the goal, the other players each have one turn to beat your score.
