Hooligan
Hooligan
By Dana George
Hooligan is a fairly clear-cut dice game that is played much like Yahtzee, except far less intricate. There are only seven combinations available to garner points, running from 1 to 6 with an additional option of hooligan. Players have three rolls per turn to get as many of the exact same number as they can, only they have to declare the number they are shooting for after the first roll of their turn. Though play is quite quick with only seven rounds in a game, Hooligan is still a rather enjoyable game for all ages.
1 Number a sheet of paper down one side from 1 to 6. After the 6, add the term hooligan. Along the top of the sheet, list the players, either by name or number. This sheet is your scorecard for the duration of the game.
2 Determine the order of play with the roll of a die. The highest roll begins, and play continues around the table in a clockwise direction.
3 Roll the five dice. You’ll have three rolls per turn, seven turns per game of Hooligan.
4 Declare a number. After your first roll, you can declare the number you are shooting for on this turn. As you play the game of Hooligan, much like Yahtzee, you’ll close out numbers on each turn. If you do not declare a number, you must roll all five dice again.
5 Set aside dice. After your first roll, and your declaration of what number you are shooting for, set aside those numbers before rolling again. You’ll have two more rolls for this turn to get as many of your chosen number as you can.
6 Mark your score. After your three rolls, mark the score for that turn. Your score is based on the value of your chosen number times the amount this number is present in your turn. If you’ve ended with five 1s, you’d mark 5 points next to the 1s on the score pad. If you’ve ended with three 4s, you’d mark 12 points next to the 4s on the score pad.
7 Pass the dice to the player to your left. All players will have a total of three throws per turn. Play moves around the circle until all players have had seven turns.
8 Count the points. After seven rounds, the player with the highest number of points wins.
